What is CBG: Exploring the Entourage Effect

What is CBG: Exploring the Entourage Effect

 —  Journal

What is CBD? What is CBN? Will they get me high? What about CBC? What is CBG? Can I take them together? What is the entourage effect and how does it work? If you have asked yourself a couple of these questions – you’re in the right place!

The Entourage Effect: The Synergy of CBD and Cannabinoids

Cannabidiol (CBD) has recently gained popularity for its potential health benefits. Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD does not produce a “high,” and can be commonly used for pain management. Known for its calming effects, CBD can help with conditions such as chronic pain, arthritis, and muscle soreness. Many of our customers use CBD to help with sleep. Beyond that, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties that may help with conditions like arthritis.

Research also suggests it may offer neuroprotective benefits for individuals with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and multiple sclerosis. Additionally, CBD is being studied for its potential role in supporting heart health by lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart disease. Some evidence indicates it could help manage addiction by reducing cravings for substances like nicotine, opioids, and alcohol. CBD is non-psychoactive, providing therapeutic benefits without intoxicating effects. It is generally well-tolerated making it an attractive natural alternative to pharmaceuticals.

Meet the Bliss Molecule: Anandamide & Its Role in the ECS

A key player in this system is anandamide, often referred to as the “bliss molecule.” Anandamide is a naturally occurring neurotransmitter that binds to cannabinoid receptors, much like THC, but is produced by the body. It plays a vital role in regulating mood, stress, and pain, contributing to the feeling of well-being and relaxation.

Unlike THC, which strongly binds to CB1 receptors and produces long-lasting psychoactive effects, anandamide is quickly broken down by the enzyme FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase). However, compounds like CBD may help prevent this breakdown, allowing anandamide to stay in the system longer and prolong its mood-boosting and stress-relieving effects. This is why many users report a sense of calm and balance when using CBD—it indirectly supports the body’s natural production of the bliss molecule.

Activities like exercise (often associated with a “runner’s high”), meditation, and even eating dark chocolate have been shown to increase anandamide levels naturally. When combined with cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, and CBC, the result can be an even greater sense of relaxation, focus, and overall well-being—further enhancing the entourage effect.

Exploring CBG, CBN, and CBD

Ever heard the term “better together”? Think about CBD and cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), and cannabichromene (CBC) as a team working together to interact with one another to maximize a wide range of benefits. The entourage effect discerns that combining cannabinoids may enhance their effects, offering full-spectrum benefits. Cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabichromene (CBC) are lesser-known cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, each exhibiting unique potential therapeutic properties. When combined, these compounds may contribute to the “entourage effect,” a proposed mechanism where multiple cannabis constituents work synergistically to enhance overall therapeutic outcomes.

Each of these cannabinoids—CBC, CBG, CBN, and CBD—has distinct properties and effects. These cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in different ways.

Here’s a breakdown of their key differences:

EFFECTS

BENEFITS

USES

CBC (Cannabichromene)

Non-psychoactive; interacts with CB2 receptors and transient receptor potential (TRP) channels rather than CB1 receptors.

Anti-inflammatory

Pain relief (synergistic with THC and other cannabinoids)

Antidepressant properties

Neuroprotective effects

Research suggests it may help with pain, mood disorders, and neuroprotection.

CBG (Cannabigerol)

Non-psychoactive; considered the “mother of all cannabinoids” because it serves as the precursor to THC, CBD, and CBC.

Anti-inflammatory (may help with colitis and IBD)

Neuroprotective (potential for Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease)

Antibacterial properties (studies suggest it may help fight MRSA)

May promote appetite stimulation

Found in broad- and full-spectrum hemp extracts; growing interest in its potential therapeutic effects.

CBN (cannabinol)

Mildly psychoactive (much weaker than THC); forms as THC degrades

Sedative properties (sleep aid)

Pain relief

Anti-inflammatory

Sleep aid and relaxation, often combined with CBD and terpenes.

Everyday Edibles For Everybody.

Whether you’re a pro or a newbie, at Seventh Hill CBD we believe there can truly be a daily edible for everybody. From anxiety relief and non-psychoactive ingredients to a full body buzz, we’ve got just the experience and range of effects you may be looking for. By combining cannabinoids through handcrafted, delicious goodies, you can maximize benefits or give yourself the pain relief boost you may need.

While each cannabinoid has individual benefits, combining them with other cannabinoids and terpenes may enhance their effects. This synergy, called the entourage effect, suggests that full-spectrum cannabis extracts may be more effective than isolated cannabinoids alone. The entourage effect is a crucial concept in cannabinoid science, referring to how cannabinoids work better together than alone. When CBC is combined with CBD, CBN, or CBG, the results can be even more profound:

While science behind cannabinoids is evolving, the entourage effect proves that these compounds work better together. By combining CBD with CBC, CBG, and CBN, you can tailor your desired experience to be enhanced with benefits for pain relief, sleep, inflammation, mood support, and much more. Whether you’re looking to relax, improve focus, or find natural alternatives for health concerns, full-spectrum and broad-spectrum products offer a way to harness the full potential of hemp-derived cannabinoids.

What is THCV?

What is THCV?

June 12, 2025

Seventh Hill is proud to utilize a wide variety of cannabinoids in our products. Our latest endeavor has been exploring the powerhouse cannabinoid, THCV. Our 1:1 THCV Gummies are crafted with an uplifting sativa terpene profile inspired by Sour Diesel plus a delicious organic watermelon flavoring. But what is THCV? What effects does THCV have and what are it’s benefits? We’ll cover all of that and more in this blog.

What is THCV?

THCV, otherwise known as Tetrahydrocannabivarin, is a naturally occuring cannabinoid found in many hemp and cannabis flower, especially sativa strains. It binds with our CB1 and CB2 receptors similar to THC but has much less intoxicating effects possibly because of their molecular structures (1). In fact, the primary difference between THCV and THC is the presence of a 3-carbon group rather than a 5-carbon molecular group. However the two cannabinoids have widely different effects. THCV does provide a subtle euphoric sensation, just not quite as strong or pronounced as THC. This makes THCV a much more manageable cannabinoid and far less intimidating to explore.

What effects does THCV have?

While THCV will not get you the most stoned, its effects are still extremely pleasant. THCV gives a mild euphoric feeling that can be both uplifting and stimulating, without causing anxiety or overwhelming effects. In fact, THCV has shown tremendous promise for relieving anxiety and managing PTSD (2). For those who struggle with anxiety, THCVs effects can help keep your head feeling clear and focused.

What benefits does THCV provide?

THCV has a wide variety of benefits that can help so many people. From managing anxiety, to even managing your appetite! Here’s a short list:

Who may benefit from THCV:

With such a wide variety of benefits, THCV has something to offer everybody. Folks who seek relief from this plant but need to have a clear head could greatly benefit from using THCV. Or perhaps someone trying to get back in control of their diet and health, THCVs ability to control glycemic in folks with type 2 diabetes (3). There is a wide variety of people who could benefit from this cannabinoid.

Ways to use THCV:

Slowly introducing THCV into your routine is a great place to start. Pairing THCV with other familiar cannabinoids could help ease this powerhouse cannabinoid into your daily life. Based off of its nature, I would recommend starting with a product with at least 10mg of THCV in each serving and increase as needed.

Experience is paramount.

As with any cannabinoid, its effects are different for everybody and the best way to find out is to try it for yourself! We recommend starting with a low dosage and working your way up from there as needed. If you are curious about THCV and would like to try it for yourself, check out our THCV gummies at the link below!

Who May Benefit From a 2:1 CBD:THC Product

Who May Benefit From a 2:1 CBD:THC Product

March 25, 2025

Seventh Hill’s 2:1 (CBD:THC) Caramels have been our top sellers since they launched in 2020. Our 2:1 edibles provide pronounced effects that will leave you thinking clearly and feeling relaxed. Seventh Hill’s 2:1 Caramels help with anxiety, inflammation, and so much more! Here is what makes our 2:1 Caramels so effective.

What is a 2:1 CBD to THC Product?

In short, a 2:1 CBD to Delta 9 THC formula means that there is two times as much CBD as Delta 9 THC. *If CBD and Delta 9 THC are new terms for you, check out this blog first!* Now- this is not some arbitrary ratio; 2:1 edibles have been popular for a very long time due to their potent effects. When CBD and Delta 9 THC are paired together in this proportion, the two cannabinoids compliment each other in a harmonious way offering deep relief without too much “drag”.

Delta 9 THC is the “intoxicating” cannabinoid, it’s a cannabinoid that binds with receptors and sends signals to our body to provide euphoric effects. CBD is a far less aggressive cannabinoid and is believed to strengthen neuroreceptors and bonds rather than create new ones. In a 2:1 CBD:THC edible, there is twice as much CBD as Delta 9 THC which means the psychoactive effects will be less pronounced but the CBD effects will be more enhanced.

Hemp derived Delta 9 THC is completely legal within in the US as long as it doesn’t exceed .3% of its weight. Since our caramels weigh 17 grams, this can actually be quite a bit. We dive more into its legality here if you are interested.

2:1 Caramels at Seventh Hill CBD

Seventh Hill’s 2:1 Caramels were one of the first edibles on the market with high THC content. While many hemp derived companies were afraid to have high THC in their edibles, Seventh Hill knew it was not only necessary, but deeply wanted by the folks already depending on CBD. With time and education, we were able to teach our retail partners and customers how these products were both legal and needed.

Reasons for Choosing a 2:1 Ratio

So, is a 2:1 CBD:THC ratio right for you?  Let’s go over what this ratio can offer so that you can decide if you feel it is an appropriate fit for you and your unique needs.

Reason #1: More Enhanced Effects

For folks that use CBD everyday, adding a more potent cannabinoid like Delta 9 THC to the mix can help revive your CBD routine.  Natural, hemp-derived Delta 9 THC is a very potent cannabinoid that is going to give products that extra oomph you are looking for. It is important to ease your way into consuming Delta 9 THC due to it’s potent effects. Thanks to the 2:1 ratio, the CBD can provide balance so that you’re not overwhelmed by the effects of the Delta 9 THC. If you have been taking pure/mainly CBD products for a while now, a 2:1 ratio may be just what you need to feel those pronounced effects again.

Reason #2: Taking the “Edge off” of Delta 9 THC

Some people simply do not mix well with Delta 9 THC. Even lifelong cannabis users can grow out consuming pure THC as their lives, responsibilities, and bodies change. On the other hand, those who are brand new to Delta 9 THC may feel a bit nervous when experiencing its psychoactive properties. Delta 9 THC is a vastly different experience than CBD, CBN or even Delta 8 THC. Incorporating CBD into the mix helps “take the edge off” of Delta 9 THCs intoxicating properties. Many describe Delta 9 THC as a head-high, but by adding CBD to the experience as well it can really take that sensation to a whole-body-buzz, while helping you stay clear-minded along the way.

Reason #3: Great for Experienced CBD Users

Seventh Hill recommends a 2:1 ratio to long-time CBD users who doesn’t feel the effects like they used to. It’s natural to build a tolerance slowly after using CBD for an extended period of time. Once that starts to happen with your CBD products, we recommend stepping up to a 2:1 ratio. Since it is still predominantly CBD, the effects of the Delta 9 THC aren’t too potent; but it’s still stronger than straight CBD. A 2:1 ratio allows the body to slowly adjust to the properties of Delta 9 THC.

Reason #4: Synergy in Action

Cannabinoids share a synergistic relationship with one another, in which taking combinations of cannabinoids can boost the bioavailability and effectiveness of each one.  This is the science behind the entourage effect that comes from taking a full spectrum hemp product.  These products are full spectrum, and the high levels of Delta 9 THC and CBD allow these two cannabinoids to potentially make the properties of each one even more effective than when taken separately.

Reason #5: Change Up Your Canna Routine

If you are a lifelong cannabis user looking to mix up your canna routine, take a tolerance break or just lower your THC consumption, a 2:1 edible is a great way to still feel the familiar effects but at a lower velocity. As our lives and responsibilities change, sometimes other things change as a result, too. If you need to rethink your cann-routine, a 2:1 edible may be just what you need!

2:1 CBD to Delta 9 THC Ratio: Perfect for Your Daily Cannabinoid Needs

Seventh Hill’s 2:1 Caramels provide the best hemp experience overall, offering more enhanced effects while giving the body ample doses of two exceptional cannabinoids.  If you’re new to Delta 9 THC, or you just want a nice balance between these star compounds, check out our various 2:1 Caramel formulas to find a strain that provides the effects that you’re specifically seeking out.

Difference Between CBD and THC

What is the Difference Between CBD and THC?

March 21, 2025

CBD & ∆9THC is everywhere nowadays. It’s not all that rare to find hemp derived edibles at your local coffee shop or to drive by a billboard advertising these products too. Hemp and cannabis are slowly becoming a part of our mainstream culture. But there are still so many questions… like what’s the difference between Hemp and Cannabis? And what actually is CBD?  By the end of this blog, you will understand these common questions so well, you’ll be able to teach your bff all about these plant-powered products.

What is Hemp and Cannabis?

Hemp (a variation of cannabis) is a gorgeous green, bushy plant that grows best in a warm and slightly humid environment. Hemp plants can be male or female. Male plants are grown for their fiber and seeds, while female plants are grown for their flowers. Hemp plants grow big and tall through the summer but once the days start to get shorter, they start to produce their therapeutic flowers. These flowers produce some of nature’s most powerful medicine. The buds and leaves that make up the flowers are coated with sticky little globes called trichomes which are filled with all the plant-powered magic including the cannabinoids and terpenes.

Hemp and Cannabis have been used in our society for thousands of years but have recently been criminalized and highly-regulated within the past century. Hemp and Cannabis consumption, cultivation, and importation was banned in 1937 under the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937. While it is still illegal to do these things on a federal level, a lot of states have been voting and changing this standard since 2012.

However hemp falls into its own unique category. In the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp became an agricultural crop just like apples or grapes. However, unlike apples and grapes, hemp still has to fit a certain criteria to be considered legal. That criteria? The finished hemp product cannot contain more than .3% ∆9THC. As long as your plants fit this criteria, it can be grown and sold like a crop.

What is the Difference Between Hemp and Cannabis?

If you saw a hemp plant and a cannabis plant growing alongside one another you would not be able to tell the difference. From a physical perspective, the plants are identical. The only difference between hemp and cannabis is their cannabinoid content. As mentioned before, hemp is defined as having less than .3% ∆9THC.

*Hemp grown for flower looks identical to cannabis, but hemp grown for its stalk/fiber has been modified to grow very lengthy stalks with minimal flowers.*

What is CBD and THC?

CBD and ∆9THC are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in hemp and cannabis. Just like how caffeine naturally occurs in coffee beans, CBD and ∆9THC (and many other cannabinoids) naturally occur in hemp and cannabis.

Technically speaking, CBD and ∆9THC are “cannabinoids”. Cannabinoids come in all kinds of shapes and effects which is based on their molecular structure. Some cannabinoids have more molecular bonds and as a result, have stronger effects (∆9THC). While even just one less bonding molecule can make a cannabinoid half as potent (∆8THC). Check out the graphic below to see some cannabinoid molecular structures.

Cannabinoid Molecular Structure

How Does CBD and ∆9THC work?

Our bodies are equipped with something called an Endocannabinoid System (ECS)- it is an entire system of nerves dedicated to processing cannabinoids. We were literally made to engage with cannabinoids! Which, sounds too good to be true, but it is! When we consume cannabinoids, there is a corresponding nerve receptor just waiting to welcome that cannabinoid and make magic happen. When ∆9THC enters the ECS it, binds with receptors throughout the brain and body sending various mental and physical signals which gives us the unique euphoric sensation. When CBD enters our ECS, it is hypothesized to not actually bond with receptors but more so act as a modulator for preexisting neuro-pathways. Like encouraging and strengthening pathways for serotonin which is why CBD is great for regulating moods and anxiety.

Benefits of CBD

  • Anti inflammatory.
  • Helps regulate seizures.
  • Manages pain.
  • Regulates and improves moods.
  • Relieves nausea.
  • Manage anxiety.

Benefits of THC

  • Stimulates appetite.
  • Relieves pain.
  • Manage glaucoma.
  • Relieve anxiety.
  • Manage multiple sclerosis pain.
  • Nerve pain.

Wrapping Up

Our bodies are designed to use cannabinoids, their presence in our bodies has irreplaceable benefits that help promote a true state of homeostasis. By mindfully introducing CBD and ∆9THC to your wellness routine you could help regulate your mood, relieve pain, sleep better, be more present and so much more. The most amazing part of this plant is how safe it is. Nobody has ever died from consuming too many cannabinoids, but you should always start slow. What are Terpenes?

What are Terpenes?

March 20, 2025

Terpenes, also known as terpenoids, are the largest and most diverse group of naturally occurring compounds… They are mostly found in plants and form the major constituent of essential oils from plants.” – National Library of Medicine

What are Terpenes?

Terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in literally everything that flowers. Terpenes are what you smell when you walk through a wooded forest or cut into citrus. Lemons for example, have high amounts of the terpene Limonene, which is loved for its exhilarating flavor, its pungent scent, or for its antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

Terpenes are a plants natural line of defense against pests and predators. Their sharp and pungent scent deters deers from eating their flowers and keeps certain bugs from landing on their sticky leaves. In fact, back when we lived on the hemp farm, all of our veggies would be demolished by wildlife- but the moment our hemp plants starting producing flowers (and terpenes) the deers stopped snacking.

Terpenes have been studies for many, many years and can probably be found in your home right now! They are in your favorite botanical-based shampoo, or the IPA in your fridge, terpenes are everywhere.

What Do Terpenes Do?

Terpenes have been used in the medicinal world for hundreds of years. From fighting infections to soothing depression, terpenes have a wide variety of uses and benefits. Here is a short list complete with links to the research:

What Do Terpenes Do For Hemp Products?

Terpenes influence your hemp experience by adding additional effects. In other words, terpenes are what dictate whether your experience is sativa, indica or hybrid. For years the industry has held onto the belief that the effects were solely dependent on genetics, but over time we have been able to draw a correlation between terpene profiles and effects. For example, your favorite sativa strains are probably rich in stimulating terpenes like limonene and terpinolene while your favorite indicas have relaxing terpenes like linalool and myrcene.

While many cannabis consumers understand the importance of having a diverse and potent cannabinoid profile, many lifelong users completely dismiss the importance of terpenes. But a study done in 2018 researched the effects of isolated CBD compared to the effects of terpene rich extract found that refractory epilepsy patients experienced less seizures when their treatment included terpenes.

Terpenes take the cannabis experience to the next level. They can make a high more pronounced, stimulating, or relaxing. Many lifelong cannabis users have their favorite & least favorite terpenes based of their flavors and effects. For example, I love spicy terpenes like Myrcene and Beta Caryophyllene for their anxiolytic effects while terpinolene is my least favorite because it causes anxiety for me. I’ve learned how to smell cannabis and recognize the terpene profiles that will sit well with me vs the ones that will make me uncomfortable. It is a learning process but resources like this terpene diary make it fun and easy to learn!

Wrapping Up

Terpenes are truly a miraculous part of the plant medicine world. Think of them as refined + amplified essential oils. When used mindfully and strategically, terpenes can strongly influence your cannabis experience. I highly encourage all cannabis consumers to explore and educate themselves on terpenes even beyond this blog! If you are not mindfully choosing your terpenes- you cannot be not fully in control of your wellness routine. Advocate for your wellness by asking your budtender//brands to provide terpene tests and learn which scents and flavors make you feel your desired effects. It’s a learning process but before you know it, the nose will know!

Choosing the Right Hemp Oil

Choosing the Right Hemp Oil

March 20, 2025

Hybrid CBD Oil

When shopping for an everyday hemp product, most people often turn to hemp oils. Favored for their consistency, convenience, and price, hemp oils should be a key part of every wellness routine. But before you add to the cart, here are a few things to consider…

Not All Hemp Oils are Created Equally

Just like how gas-station coffee differs from one bought at a local coffee roaster, hemp oils come in a wide range of quality. From sourcing ingredients to the potency or just the overall flavor- these are some of the significant factors to consider before purchasing your next hemp oil.

Potency

The milligram strength of hemp oil tells you how many milligrams of pure cannabinoids are in the whole bottle. For example, our CBD Oils come in a 500mg or 1,000mg potency. This means that the entire bottle has 500mg/1,000mg of pure CBD in each bottle (this does not mean that you will be taking 500mg every time you take a serving).

Most oils come packaged in small bottles with a dropper built directly into the lid. This dropper is to be used for consumption and can help keep dosing accurate. For example, our CBD Oils recommended dose is one full dropper, which equates to about 16mg of CBD per serving.

Hemp oils can be infused with a variety of cannabinoids and at varying strengths to provide different effects.  Hemp oils can be as low as 100mg per bottle or all the way up to 5,000mg per bottle.

Choosing the right hemp oil comes down to identifying what your needs are and what cannabinoid(s) are most likely to provide you with the desired effects. If you are unsure which cannabinoid is right for you I recommend browsing our other blog topics to learn more.

Quality Ingredients

Hemp oils are meant to be consumed regularly (if not daily) and should have clean ingredients that will not disrupt your pre-existing diet. Even better if the ingredients are ethically sourced and/or organic. It is important to keep in mind that different oils will have different vitamins/minerals.

Seventh Hill uses four natural ingredients in our hemp oils:

  1. Organic Hemp Seed Oil: the carrier oil.
  2. Hemp Extract: the plant magic.
  3. Organic Sunflower Lecithin: binds it all together.
  4. Organic Botanical Terpenes: effects + flavor.

Flavor

Most hemp oils have some sort of flavor added. Here are the two things you need to consider in regard to choosing the right hemp oil and its flavor:

  1. What does a “good flavor” taste like to you? Do you like keeping things el natural? Or do you tend to have a sweet tooth?
  2. It is important that the flavor of the hemp oil is tolerable for you and your preferences. If you are dreading the way something tastes, it will likely go to waste.

Seventh Hill uses organic botanical terpenes to give our hemp oils their naturally sweet + subtle flavor. Terpenes also add additional benefits to our oils (mentioned in the next section).

Overall Effects

The hemp plant is rich in a diverse array of unique compounds, with cannabinoids being just one part. A truly full-spectrum hemp oil should have a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes for the most pronounced effects. In fact, science has shown that products with both cannabinoids and terpenes tend to be the most effective hemp products. By synergizing terpenes and cannabinoids together, hemp oil can have more consistent and diverse effects.

Seventh Hill strategically uses terpenes in conjunction with complex cannabinoid profiles to give our products unique and reliable effects. For example, our Rise CBD Oil has uplifting terpenes for a sativa-inspired experience. Whereas our CBN Oil has relaxing terpenes that work in harmony with its cannabinoid profile to promote sleep.

The Carrier Oil

Cannabinoids and terpenes are the plant magic while the oil is the message carrier. Cannabinoids bind best to fatty substances which is why hemp-seed oil is a great carrier. The carrier oil used should be neutral in flavor and healthy to ingest on a daily basis.

Seventh Hill uses this Organic Virgin Hemp Seed Oil which is crafted with hulled-out hemp seeds and a cold-press method. We prefer this oil for its rich fatty content which helps with cannabinoid consumption plus has additional health benefits. Plus it just felt right to put the cannabinoids and terpenes back into something familiar.

Cost

Many people are surprised to learn what it costs to produce a quality hemp oil. Oftentimes, the ingredients and labor cost more than the hemp extract itself. There is a fine line when it comes to correlating a higher price tag with higher quality. Charging more than $40 for 500mg is unnecessary- no matter how quality the ingredients. Most folks seek comfort from their hemp oil every day, there is no need to charge an arm and a leg for one of the most simple products.

Third Party Testing

One thing that you must look for whenever buying a hemp product is a third-party lab test. Any legitimate hemp company should send batches of finished products to a third-party lab for thorough, unbiased testing and then provide the given analysis to consumers.  A lab report shows customers the exact amount of mg present in the finished product and is an irreplaceable seal of trust for a brand.

Choosing the Right Hemp Oil

Hemp Oils are a discrete, safe, effective, and extremely reliable way to experiment with hemp-derived products. However, not all hemp oils are created with the same love and care. Be sure to do your own research before purchasing your own hemp oil.

Comparing Hemp Products: Edibles and Oils – Seventh Hill CBD

Hemp products come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Finding the right one for you and your unique needs can feel like a game of goldie locks. Seventh Hill is here to teach you the main differences between our favorite hemp products: edibles and oils. In this blog, we’ll break down the key variables that make these products different and explain which one may be right for whom.

What is a hemp product?

The 2018 Farm Bill defines hemp as having a ∆9THC content of less than .3%. If a product (flower, seeds, extract, edible, etc) contains more than .3% ∆9THC is a cannabis product.

This definition applies to hemp flowers but can also apply to edibles based on their weight. To put it simply, a hemp product must contain less than .3% ∆9THC based on how much each piece weighs.

Hemp products can contain a wide variety of cannabinoids, like CBD, CBC, and other forms of THC like ∆8THC, not just ∆9THC. However, ∆9THC tends to be the crowd favorite cannabinoid because of its euphoric effects. Scientists have found over 100 different cannabinoids in research but among the most common and popular are:

Extractors often use heat and solvents, like ethanol or alcohol, to extract cannabinoids from the plant. From there, manufacturers strategically transfer the cannabinoids into just about any substance to create a hemp product. Manufacturers can dissolve hemp extract into a simple organic oil or bake it into a candy. No single way is objectively better than the other without considering the users own preferences.

However, there are significant differences between consuming a hemp edible compared to hemp oil. These factors include:

  1. How long the effects of hemp products last
  2. How quickly you can feel the effects
  3. How strongly those effects will feel throughout the body

Hemp Oils

Hemp oils represent a straightforward concept: someone dissolves hemp extract directly into an oil. Stores sell hemp oils in bottles with a dropper built into the lid for quick and easy consumption.

Administer hemp oils directly into your mouth and hold them below your tongue for optimal absorption. Holding the oil underneath your tongue allows your body to directly absorb it through your sublingual tissue. This method allows the oil to get to work extra fast and provide even longer effects.

Pros:

#1: Clean Ingredients

Hemp oils are loved far for their simple and clean ingredients. Our hemp oils have 3-4 all-natural ingredients. Their simplicity makes hemp oils gluten, dairy, and sugar-free, ideal for folks with dietary restrictions.

#2: Quick, Easy and Discrete

Manufacturers package their hemp oils with droppers built into their lids for quick and easy consumption. This convenience makes them ideal for folks who are busy and on-the-go.

#3: Subtle Effects

Hemp oils have pronounced effects without being overwhelming. Their subtle effects make hemp oils ideal for all-day, everyday use.

#4: Cost Effective

When comparing cost per cannabinoid, hemp oils are the most cost-effective option. This is likely because of their simple ingredients and overall production.

Hemp Edibles

Many folks love hemp edibles for their long-lasting, pronounced effects. THC-dominant edibles provide a bone-deep body buzz that can last for hours (depending on the user). For better or worse, you can stir hemp extract into just about any recipe. The most common hemp edibles are gummies, drinks, candy, and other baked treats.

Pros:

#1: Edibles Last Longer

The stomach and liver process hemp edibles. This process makes the effects of the edible at least twice as potent before it transfers into the bloodstream. Depending on the user, an edible can have its effects last up to eight hours.

#2: Stronger Effects

Since THC becomes more potent when being processed as an edible, hemp edibles have much stronger effects than hemp oils. This can be ideal for those folks who have a hard time feeling the effects of hemp edibles.

#3: They’re Freaking Delicious

For better or worse, hemp extract can be stirred into just about anything- and we’ve seen folks do it.

Which Hemp Product is Best for You?

If you need a subtle yet reliable, everyday addition to your wellness routine, hemp oils are the best option. But to drastically shake up your wellness routine with something pronounced and potent, an edible might be more like it. If you still feel unsure about which product is right for you, continue doing your own research.
