Seventh Hill’s edibles are always crafted with at least two cannabinoids- the two most popular being CBD and THC. What is a 1:1 and 2:1 (CBD:THC) product?

There are a variety of cannabinoids we could throw in to this equation, but for the sake of keeping things simple we will only be talking about a CBD:THC ratio today.

A 1:1 CBD:THC product has equal amounts of CBD and THC in it while a 2:1 product has twice as much CBD as THC.

These two ratios have very different effects on our bodies.

The cannabinoids we consume work by binding with receptors throughout our body which are a part of the Endocannabinoid System. The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a part of our body that is dedicated to regulating mood, sleep, the ability to learn, manage stress, stimulate appetite and so much more.

Within the ECS there are two major receptors: cannabinoid receptor 1 (CR1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CR2). Each cannabinoid that enters our bloodstream binds to and interacts with the ECS in its own unique way, some bonding with both receptors while others only bond with one. Some cannabinoids even communicate beyond the ECS.

Studies have shown that CBD has a surprisingly low affinity for CB1 and CB2 receptors. In fact, CBD interacts with a variety of systems including the serotonergic, opioid, and cannabinoid systems. This may be why CBD has so many benefits!

What is the difference between a 1:1 and 2:1 (CBD:THC) Product?

The way a 1:1 product feels is very different than how a 2:1 product feels. 

A 1:1 product will have equally pronounced effects on the body + mind while a 2:1 product will still have strong effects- but not quite as potent on the body.

When our body consumes an equal amount of these cannabinoids (1:1), the two work in conjunction with one another to provide a well-balanced buzz. When our body consumes twice as much CBD as THC (2:1), the mind + body effects feel less intense while the simultaneously amplifying the effects of CBD.

Is a 1:1 or 2:1 product more potent?

Potency depends on a lot of things. Basing a products potency off of it’s ratio is only half of the equation.

For example, Seventh Hill’s 1:1 Caramels have a lower cannabinoid count than our 2:1 Extra Strength Caramels, but their effects may feel more “potent” since it has a 1:1 ratio.

A 1:1 product feels more potent because the two cannabinoids have equal opportunity of occupying a receptor, making the THC effects more likely to take hold.

A 2:1 product may have higher cannabinoid content, but the effects will feel less pronounced since the THC has a smaller chance of occupying a receptor.

Should I take a 1:1 or 2:1 product?

If you are brand new to consuming cannabinoids, starting with a 2:1 product is much safer than starting with a 1:1 product- especially if you are inexperienced with THC.

Starting with a 2:1 product will allow you to feel the effects of THC without being too overwhelmed.

If you are well experienced with cannabinoids and need a little more oomph, a 1:1 product may be just what you need. 

Perhaps you have been consuming THC for a while now and you have started to experience anxiety- adding a little bit of CBD to the regime with a 1:1 product may help take off that edge.

What is THCV?

THCV, otherwise known as Tetrahydrocannabivarin, is a naturally occuring cannabinoid found in many hemp and cannabis flower, especially sativa strains. It binds with our CB1 and CB2 receptors similar to THC but has much less intoxicating effects possibly because of their molecular structures (1). In fact, the primary difference between THCV and THC is the presence of a 3-carbon group rather than a 5-carbon molecular group. However the two cannabinoids have widely different effects. THCV does provide a subtle euphoric sensation, just not quite as strong or pronounced as THC. This makes THCV a much more manageable cannabinoid and far less intimidating to explore.

What effects does THCV have?

While THCV will not get you the most stoned, its effects are still extremely pleasant. THCV gives a mild euphoric feeling that can be both uplifting and stimulating, without causing anxiety or overwhelming effects.
