For most folks the holiday season can be filled with traveling which, can lead to stress, anxiety and an achey body after hours of sitting still. Now more than ever, folks of all sorts are turning to CBD gummies and Delta 9 THC candy to relieve their pain. Whether you are driving the distance or loading onto a plane, here are a few simple tips + pointers on how to safely travel with CBD edibles

Edibles tend to be the best choice for traveling for both their effectiveness as well as their discreteness. While vapes and hemp cones are effective products, their consumption requires small accommodations like an open window or a flow of fresh air. Edibles on the other hand can be consistently dosed out and consumed just about anywhere.

In this article we’ll talk about which edibles are the safest to travel with, some states are a lot more strict with Delta 8 than others! We will also provide you with a checklist of paper work you should print out and help you pack your edibles safely- whether you’re driving across the state or flying across the nation.

Flying with CBD

If the thought of jumping on a plane this holiday season freaks you out I can promise you- you are not alone. One in four travelers experience some form of nerves and anxiety when it comes to flying. For some folks just the fact that they are about to spend a chunk of time away from the comfort of their home can be intimidating as well. Whatever the case may be, packing your CBD edibles in a safe way is an excellent way to insure you and your goodies reach your destination.

First, you need to get familiar with the states laws wherever you are heading. Even if you fly out of a cannabis-friendly state, your destination may not be as.. accommodating. You can search something along the lines of, “_____ hemp derived edible laws” and fill in the blank with the state your destination is in. This website is also a great resource for state-by-state regulations.

“Marijuana and certain cannabis infused products are allowed in all carry-on and checked bags as long as they contain less than .3% THC…”

TSA statement available here.

Thankfully TSA is finally on our side and has agreed to let hemp-derived products with less than .3% THC on all carry-ons and checked bags! You can find their statement here. But before you put any bags through security here is a checklist of steps you can take to make sure your CBD candy doesn’t disappear in flight:

  • Leave all labels on or with products.
  • Print off corresponding COAs for the products you’re packing.
  • Print a copy of your ID if products are high-potency.
  • Pack all of your products + paperwork together in a bag and place towards the front of your checked bag/carry-on.
  • Extra: write a letter explaining that these products are compliant and explaining the paperwork provided (COAs for potency, ID for age verification).

Most of the airports have settled down with seizing hemp derived products but taking these few extra precautions is a good way to rest assured that you and your CBD candy will arrive to your final destination safely.

Driving with CBD Products

Driving with CBD products has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Since your belongings *most likely* won’t be ran through a security check-point chances are you and your CBD edibles will get from Point A to Point B safe and sound. However if you do get stopped, things can be a bit unpredictable- unless you plan ahead.

You should visit this link that we mentioned above to double check each states regulations that you plan on driving through. Some states may be a little stern and require you to drive extra carefully while others may be so strict they are worth avoiding all together. For example, there are a handful of states that consider Delta 8 illegal- if you’re traveling with Delta 8 candy, you may want to check out this article to figure out if you cross into enemies territory.

Once you have mapped out your road-trip, here is a short and sweet checklist to follow while packing for your trip:

  • Leave all labels on or with products.
  • Print off corresponding COAs for the products you’re packing.
  • Pack all of your products + paperwork together in a bag and place in the far back/trunk of the car.

The major advantage to driving is being able to explain the products in person. By having all of the appropriate paper work on hand (and your ID of course) you can walk officers through the legality of the products directly, if they allow it.

Wrapping Up

There are a lot of different variables to consider when packing your CBD edibles for a long-distance journey, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. By taking a few precautions like printing out paperwork and packing your bags strategically, you and your medibles can be safely on your way during this holiday-seasons travels.
