Delta 8 THC is a molecular compound found in hemp and cannabis. It is only found in very small quantities in the plant, but through advanced extraction methods we are able to produce isolate that is close to pure Delta 8. It is very similar to its cousin-cannabinoid Delta 9 THC, which is the dominate cannabinoid in cannabis flower. The only difference between Delta 8 and Delta 9 is one molecular bond. Delta 9 has nine molecular bond sites where as Delta 8 only has eight. There is even a Delta 10 THC, and as you may have guessed that one has ten.
As you may have already noticed, Delta 8 THC is the hottest cannabinoid on the market these days. Here at Seventh Hill, we believe that every cannabinoid the hemp plant has to offer should be fully explored and utilized, and Delta 8 is no acceptation. In the forefront of legalization, CBD is the original cannabinoid that ignited, united and legitimized our culture + industry, but that was just the beginning. There are so many other cannabinoids that have just as much potential both medicinally and recreationally. Delta 8 THC has become a hot commodity for its ability to relieve anxiety, settle nausea, stimulate appetite, and so much more.
According to the US National Cancer Institute, Delta 8 has antiemetic (nausea), anxiolytic (anxiety), appetite-stimulating, analgesic (pain), and neuroprotective properties. This has been great for cancer patients suffering from the effects of chemotherapy and radiation and studies have shown Delta 8 to be very reliable.
Delta 8 THC definitely has pronounced euphoric effects. It would be safe to say that is has anywhere from 50-70% the potency of Delta 9 THC, but that does not make it any less formidable. In fact, as a life long cannabis user myself, I have recently become enamored with Delta 8 and have been slowly incorporating it into my daily routine. Since Delta 8 has a much lower potency, it’s less likely to cause the anxiety or paranoia that is so commonly associated with Delta 9. It is the perfect balance of stimulating + relaxing, and I have found that my overall focus is drastically improved when I use it.
Like all cannabinoids, Delta 8 and its effects are influenced and enhanced when used in conjunction with other cannabinoids + terpenes. Just like CBD or Delta 9 THC, isolated Delta 8 can be pretty boring. There are tons of products out there featuring Delta 8 and most of them are your run of the mill, generic gummies and vape pens that are made with isolated Delta 8. While this may sound nice, unfortunately that the process required to isolate the Delta 8 cannabinoid is complex, and inevitably destroys or removes all the other cannabinoids and valuable terpenes. Products made with “pure Delta 8” barely scratch the surface of the potential that Delta 8 has. We have found that when paired strategically with a touch of CBD and certain terpenes, the effects are phenomenal. Because when it comes to the hemp/cannabis plant, the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.
Since we knew Delta 8 has relatively potent and euphoric effects, we knew we wanted our Delta 8 caramel to have a sativa terpene profile. At first, we started with our Rise terpene blend; but lately I have been in desperate need for some extra energy and a deeper focus. Inspiration led me to one of my favorite sativa strains, Jack Herer. Jack Herer is very high in the terpenes Limonene + Terpinolene, which is responsible for the strains infamous energizing effects. This led us to creating our new “Revive” terpene blend, in which Terpinolene is the predominate terpene followed by Limonene.
Then we were onto the cannabinoid profile. After experimenting with a few batches that contained just Delta 8 THC isolate, I decided it needed more. I knew CBD is known to counteract the effects of Delta 9 THC, and the same can be assumed true for Delta 8 THC. But CBD also can have a positive influence on the “high” you experience, so I decided to add just a touch of CBD. Compared to our original recipe which as 25mg CBD, I settled on 10mg of CBD for this caramel and 20mg Delta 8 per caramel.
Our new Delta 8 “Revive” Caramels are just as, if not more, potent than edibles I have gotten in recreation dispensaries. Another tweak we decided to do was to reduce the amount of CBD in the recipe. Needless to say we were very excited to bring these caramels to our customers. The Farm Bill that legalized hemp production and subsequently paved the way for all the cannabinoid products on the market today continues to be used in different ways. Its an exciting time when we are able to provide yet another product that pushes the boundaries of what ” Hemp” products are capable of.
We hope that this article has shed a little light on what exactly Delta 8 THC is and what its potential is. The market is flooded with D8 products and as with CBD not all these products are made with a passion for the plant, or even an understanding of how cannabis medicine works. Many companies are simply buying Delta 8 extract, adding it to a generic gummy, and then selling it. We want our customers to know that our Delta 8 Revive Caramel is made with love, and backed by science. We have done everything we can to provide you with one of the most effective Delta 8 THC products you can find, and we hope that you thoroughly enjoy it. They are available now at your local Seventh Hill CBD retailer as well as on our website.
